BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. – A Boynton Beach mom is called a hero after turning her son into police after discovering thousands of dollars worth of stolen electronics in her home.

She said it was a last resort after she struggled to find the help she needed for her son.

“I’m a mother crying out for help,” said Gammon

Ithea Gammon says her 17-year-old son has struggled with crime, peer pressure and substance abuse for years. She has reached out to dozens of government agencies for help in counseling her son, but they turned her away, telling her, her son needed to be a felon to be enrolled in the specific programs she requested.

“Does he have to get shot for them to notice and say ‘I am here to help’?” said Gammon.

She is hopeful when her son is released from juvenile detention in a few days, that an organization will step up and work with her to make sure he gets the help he needs.
