ICYMI: Americas High School soccer player wins contest to meet idol Neymar:
After winning a contest sponsored by a Brazilian soft-drink company, a 16-year-old high school girl from El Paso, Texas, has waived the significant cash prize in favour of landing herself a meeting with Neymar.
Having entered back in June by submitting a photo of herself in a Neymar shirt while performing trick shots, budding goalkeeper Rhiannon Conelley was eventually chosen as the winner of the competition run by Guaraná Antarctica.
She was then offered the choice of either taking home the $10,000 prize haul or traveling to Spain to meet her football idol and, of course, Rhiannon plumped for the latter!
“I just wanted to meet Neymar. I thought that was more important than the $10,000,” she told the El Paso Times. “Everyone disagrees with that, but I’m sticking to my guns.”
The 16-year-old will travel to Barcelona next year to meet Neymar, and insists that she doesn’t regret passing on such a large sum of money as she has hatched a cunning plan to make sure her once-in-a-lifetime trip is worthwhile.
“I’ll ask him if he wants to marry me. I don’t want to scare him too much,” Rhiannon said.
“I don’t want him to call security to kick me out!”
