Message of President Michel Martelly :

My brothers and sisters from all over Haiti and abroad,

I know that Christmas is an important time in the life of every Haitian.

This day is special because Christmas is the feast of peace, solidarity with each other. It is a time that invites us to share, a time for us to agree, to join to each other. It is a time that calls for reflection, so that we can solve the problems that have put us back to back.

Haitians,

As I have always said, is in the gathering that we will find the strength to develop the country. This Christmas day is a message of fraternity, reconciliation, and love that I bring. It is in this same spirit of Christmas that I invited several leaders of political parties, several associations in a dialogue to allow us to change the country.

We are all Haitians. We all have the right to say our word, to make our voice heard in the country’s affairs. All this can be done with respect for the other, in the respect of all.

I have great confidence in the ability of every Haitian to do what is good for the country. I know that the gathering and good actions will lead us on the path of democracy and development.

So that the country can move forward, a lot of sacrifices and compromises were made.

Among these sacrifices, the Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe ans his government resigned. So, as Article 165 of the Constitution requests it, I appointed the Minister of Health, Dr. Florence Guillaume Duperval as prime minister for a short time, so that the state can still continue to function.

Today I received the President of the Senate and of the Chamber of Deputies to discuss the choice of a new Prime minister.

Following these consultations, 3 names were selected for the position of Prime Minister : MM. Herve Day, Charles Jean-Jacques and Evans Paul. Tomorrow 25 December a presidential decree will confirm the final choice. In that Christmas day, we ask the Lord to watch over Haiti, over his children here and abroad. I invite everyone to remain calm.
